Go back to the awesome glory days of Real-Time Strategy games. Crush Your Enemies has everything you love of the genre: Planning, choosing different types of units, managing resources, taking enemy territory and outwitting your opponent with the ingenious formations of your men.
The game takes the traditional real-time strategy (RTS) genre and streamlines it into a more focused, fast-paced experience. Unlike classic RTS games that require gathering resources, constructing expansive bases, and managing large armies, this game keeps the core strategic elements while removing many of the time-consuming resource management tasks. This allows the player to maintain a quick, intense pace while still providing meaningful tactical decisions.
At the heart of the gameplay is managing a small, specialized army of five core unit types - warriors, archers, shield bearers, scouts, and mages - each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Players must carefully select the right mix of units and position them effectively on the battlefield to overcome their opponents. The simplified unit roster means players can quickly grasp the rock-paper-scissors combat dynamics and adapt their strategies accordingly.
Each level presents the player with a specific objective to accomplish, such as defeating all enemy forces within a time limit, defending a position for a set duration, or capturing the opponent's territory. These varied, bite-sized scenarios encourage thoughtful planning and execution rather than long-term base building. The objectives also provide a clear sense of purpose and progression, as players work to meet the level requirements and unlock new challenges.
While the gameplay is streamlined, the game still offers a satisfying level of tactical depth. Players must consider unit positioning, abilities, and synergies to overcome their foes. Careful management of unit production and deployment is key, as a poorly timed or positioned attack can quickly lead to defeat. The addition of special items that provide powerful effects further expands the strategic options available to players.
Each level offers three optional challenges that provide additional objectives beyond the main goal. These challenges, such as completing the level with a certain number of units remaining or avoiding the use of special items, add an extra layer of replayability and challenge. Players who want to fully master a level must develop refined strategies to meet these additional constraints, creating a sense of progression and accomplishment.
