Build settlements, explore the Nine Realms, collect artifacts and upgrade your deck to reach the top of Yggdrasil in this post-Ragnarok roguelike city-builder! Can you survive the end of the world?
Players take on the role of Norse Viking settlers in a post-Ragnarok world, tasked with reaching the top of the World Tree, Yggdrasil, to escape the impending end of the world. This unique premise provides the foundation for an engaging and challenging gameplay experience that seamlessly combines roguelite, deckbuilding, and city-building mechanics.
At the heart of the gameplay lies a robust deckbuilding system. You start with a basic deck of building cards and gradually expand your options by adding new cards over the course of each run. These building cards represent the structures you can place on the various procedurally-generated islands. Carefully curating your deck is crucial, as the placement and combination of these buildings determines your ability to gather the necessary Supplies, Might, and Etir - the three primary resources required to progress.
While deckbuilding provides the foundation, the true essence of the gameplay lies in the city-building and exploration elements. Each island presents a unique layout, challenging you to strategically place your buildings to meet the specific objectives and overcome the threats of that location. Fitting key structures into the limited space while ensuring they benefit from adjacency bonuses is a constant balancing act, creating a puzzle-like experience that demands keen spatial awareness and strategic thinking.
As you progress through the nine realms of Norse mythology, you'll encounter a variety of biomes, threats, and opportunities that keep each run feeling fresh and engaging. The need to adapt your deck and building strategy to overcome these ever-changing challenges is a core part of the gameplay loop, ensuring that no two runs are exactly the same.
To add depth and replayability, the game incorporates roguelite elements. Each failed attempt to reach the top of Yggdrasil sends you back to your home base, the Holt, where you can unlock permanent upgrades and new deck options to aid you in future runs. This meta-progression system provides a sense of steady advancement, even as individual runs may end in defeat, and encourages experimentation and multiple playthroughs.
