Get wrecked in this immature grown-up RPG about a trio of troublemakers stumbling their way through a giant mecha tournament. Repair and upgrade the team’s hand-me-down rig, pick up odd jobs to pay the bills, and battle the best-of-the-best all while running from the regrettable choices of the past.
Players control a mech with distinct body parts (head, torso, arms, legs) that each have their own health pools. In combat, players must carefully manage their action points and ammo to target specific body parts, disable enemy abilities, and ultimately take down their opponent. Players praise the combat's satisfying "meatiness" and the sense of weight and impact behind each attack.
Between battles, players can repair, upgrade, and customize their mech, called Cowboy, in the garage. This allows for a degree of build crafting, as players can choose different weapons, armor pieces, and special abilities to equip. As players progress, they earn resources to continually improve Cowboy's capabilities, giving a sense of growth and progression alongside the story.
To earn money for mecha upgrades, the game presents various odd jobs and minigames around the central hub of Rain City. These range from simple activities like darts or gambling, to more elaborate rhythm-based challenges. While some players find the minigame grind repetitive, others appreciate how it helps immerse them in the world and characters.
The game features a "pineapple" system where players can give gifts to NPCs to build up their friendship. These relationships unlock additional story content, character interactions, and potentially even gameplay benefits. While some find this system grindy, others enjoy the added depth and the opportunity to further explore the memorable cast of characters.
