Players Like...

❤ Gameplay Mechanics

Players take on the role of Yun, a Taoist "Rewinder" who can enter people's memories and influence their actions in the past. This time travel mechanic lies at the heart of the gameplay, setting it apart from traditional point-and-click adventures.

❤ The Rewinding Mechanic

At key story moments, players can enter a character's memory and rewind or pause time. During these memory sequences, they collect "senses" by interacting with objects and understanding the characters' thoughts and intentions. Players can then use these senses to sway the characters' decisions and alter the outcome of the memory, thereby changing the present timeline. This "Rewinding" mechanic encourages replaying memory sequences to try different approaches and observe how the changes manifest in the real world. By altering the past, players uncover new clues and open up different paths in the story.

❤ Puzzles and Minigames

In addition to the Rewinding mechanic, the game features a variety of other puzzles and minigames for players to solve. These range from logic-based brain teasers, such as using an abacus to calculate earnings, to math-oriented challenges. The puzzles integrate well with the narrative, requiring players to gather clues and observations from the environment. They strike a good balance of challenge, rarely becoming frustrating, thanks to the inclusion of hints and the ability to retry puzzles. However, certain minigames, such as quick-time events, feel less polished and out of place compared to the core point-and-click and Rewinding sequences.

❤ Exploration and Narrative

Players can freely explore the game's richly-detailed environments, talking to NPCs, collecting items, and uncovering the layered narrative. The ability to revisit previously explored areas after altering the timeline adds an extra layer of discovery, as the world and its inhabitants may have changed. While the main story is fairly linear, the mixture of exploration, puzzle-solving, and timeline manipulation keeps the pacing engaging and the player invested in unraveling the mysteries of Reed River Village.
