Dissembler is a subtle puzzle game about unraveling playful, abstract designs one color at a time.
The objective in this puzzle game is to unravel playful, abstract designs by strategically flipping pairs of adjacent tiles. The goal is to create groups of 3 or more matching colored tiles, causing those tiles to disappear from the board. However, unlike standard match-3 games, no new tiles drop in to replace the ones that are matched. Instead, the player must carefully plan their moves to ultimately remove all tiles and leave behind a clean slate.
The gameplay starts simply, teaching the basic tile-flipping mechanics. But as players progress through the over 170 hand-crafted puzzles, new elements are gradually introduced, such as tiles with multiple colors, unmovable tiles, and nested color layers. These added complexities require players to think several steps ahead, planning their moves carefully to clear the board effectively.
Importantly, the game encourages experimentation, allowing players to undo any number of moves at any time without penalty. This enables them to freely try different approaches, learning from their mistakes and developing more effective strategies over time.
In addition to the main story mode, the game offers a Daily Puzzle mode with 6 new challenges added each day, as well as an Infinite mode that generates randomly-arranged puzzles for endless replayability. The Infinite mode comes in both a Relaxed and a more challenging Hard variant.
According to user reviews, players praise the game's elegant, minimalist design and the satisfying "click" sound effects when tiles are matched. The gradually increasing difficulty is also appreciated, as it leads to puzzles that are challenging yet still rewarding to solve through careful planning.
Furthermore, the game includes a colorblind mode, making it accessible to a wider audience. The ability to undo moves also helps reduce frustration, allowing players to experiment freely without fear of getting stuck.
