A Continent Engulfed in the Bitter Flames of War! Commander Claude Wallace and his childhood friends set out to fight in a desperate war, but bone-chilling blizzards, waves of imperial soldiers, and the godlike powers of the Valkyria stand between them and victory.
The "BLiTZ" battle system blends turn-based strategy, RPG, and third-person shooter gameplay in a unique and engaging way. During each turn, players freely control their units in a third-person view, moving them around the battlefield to take cover, flank enemies, or set up ambushes. This real-time movement contrasts with the turn-based structure, where players and enemies alternate taking actions, each with a limited action gauge (AP) that determines their options.
Beyond the base classes, the game allows you to deeply customize your units. You can upgrade their weapons, armor, and unlock new skill trees and abilities, fine-tuning your squad to match your preferred playstyle, whether that's a stealthy scout-focused strategy or a more aggressive, firepower-heavy approach. Vehicles, such as tanks and armored personnel carriers (APCs), also play a more prominent role. Tanks can now be deployed for only 1 Command Point, making them much more accessible. You can even link your infantry units to vehicles, leveraging their movement and firepower. Mastering the synergy between your vehicles and ground forces is essential for success.
While the core campaign follows a linear narrative, the individual battle missions often feature nonlinear, open-ended design. You are given multiple approaches and tactical options to complete objectives, encouraging experimentation and replayability. Many missions allow you to choose your own paths, flank enemies, or find creative solutions to overcome challenging encounters. This freedom, combined with the dynamic Blitz battle system, leads to emergent gameplay moments where you can devise unique, player-driven strategies to overcome obstacles.
The game builds upon the foundation of the original, introducing a number of refinements and quality-of-life improvements. These include the ability to link units to vehicles, the introduction of the Grenadier class, streamlined command point management, and an improved balance and difficulty curve that provides a more approachable experience for newcomers while still offering a significant challenge for veterans. These changes, combined with the core tactical gameplay loop, create a refined and highly polished experience that both newcomers and series fans can thoroughly enjoy.
