As a demon army besieges his village, a young ninja ventures through a cursed world, to deliver a scroll paramount to his clan’s survival. What begins as a classic action platformer soon unravels into an expansive time-traveling adventure full of thrills, surprises, and humor.
You'll master a core mechanic called the "Cloudstep", which allows you to gain extra jumps by hitting enemies, projectiles, or objects during your jump. This creates a fluid, acrobatic feel as you chain together wall-jumps, grappling hooks, and Cloudsteps to navigate the challenging 2D environments.
The ability to shift between 8-bit and 16-bit visual styles plays a key role in the Metroidvania progression. Certain paths and areas are only accessible in one visual mode or the other, creating a clever sense of discovery as you uncover new routes and secrets by testing different visual modes.
About halfway through, the experience transforms into a fully-fledged Metroidvania, with a more open-ended, interconnected world that encourages backtracking and exploration. As you gain new abilities, previously inaccessible areas open up, incentivizing you to thoroughly comb through the world.
Throughout both the linear platforming and Metroidvania-style exploration, the controls maintain an exceptional level of polish and responsiveness. The platforming challenges, while certainly difficult at times, always feel fair and conquerable through skill and practice.
