The Developer Says...

Keepsake was a labor of love developed 10 years ago by us as an independent studio. For its anniversary, we thought it would be great to see it live again on steam and gain a new following, as we feel that it is still relevant today.

❤ Story and Characters

The story follows Lydia, an intelligent and skeptical protagonist, as she searches for her best friend Celeste at the abandoned Dragonvale Academy of Magic. The narrative has a compelling emotional arc, with players reporting that it sometimes brought them to tears.
Lydia's companion, Zack the talking wolf (who claims to be a turned dragon), provides comedic relief and adds depth to the protagonist's journey, as players grapple with whether he is being truthful.
The voice acting for the main characters is praised as fitting and well-executed, helping to bring the story and its cast to life.

❤ Puzzles and Gameplay

The puzzles require logical thinking and problem-solving, often involving multi-step solutions that make sense within the game's world. Players report that the difficulty level ranges from approachable to extremely challenging, providing a satisfying sense of accomplishment when solved.
The inclusion of a hint system allows players who struggle with the puzzles to still progress through the story, while the option to skip puzzles entirely caters to those more interested in the narrative.
Some players found the slow execution of puzzle solutions and dialogue animations to be frustrating, as it increased the time required to advance the game.

❤ Exploration and Atmosphere

The detailed, pre-rendered environments of the Dragonvale Academy, with their opulent halls and magical elements, create a sense of wonder and mystery for players to uncover.
The game's soundtrack, composed of "mystic-sounding melodies," enhances the atmospheric immersion, even in the absence of other characters within the abandoned school.
While the layout of the academy can be maze-like and confusing, leading to frequent backtracking, this design choice reinforces the sense of exploration and disorientation that Lydia experiences as the protagonist.
