Warstone is a Tower Defense game, with RPG, Strategy, and even city building elements. Detailed Hi-res graphics and beautiful illustrations combine with a deep storyline to draw you into the world.
Rather than static towers, players place "warstone" units that can be positioned throughout the level. This adds an extra layer of strategic placement, as players must consider not only the optimal positioning of their defenses, but also how to leverage the powerful "warstones" that appear during levels, which provide significant bonuses to defenders standing on them.
The game offers a diverse selection of defensive units, including peasants, archers, riflemen, sorceresses, and elementals. Each unit type has unique abilities, damage types, and multi-tiered upgrade paths, allowing players to carefully customize their defenses to suit the challenges of each level. Upgrading and specializing these units is a core part of the gameplay experience.
Players can choose from three distinct classes - Warlord, Sorcerer, or Treasurer - each with its own unique skill tree. These skill trees provide a non-linear progression system, enabling players to tailor their playstyle by investing in abilities that enhance their army, magical prowess, or economic resources. Experimenting with different skill combinations adds substantial replayability.
Beyond the standard wave defense, levels can also include attack/defend missions that require players to simultaneously protect their own base and send units to attack their opponent. Challenge objectives further diversify the gameplay, tasking players with completing levels under specific conditions, such as time limits or spell/unit restrictions. This variety encourages players to approach each level with a fresh strategic mindset.
The game's cooperative multiplayer mode adds an element of teamwork and coordination, as players work together to defend against the enemy onslaught. The player-versus-player modes introduce direct competition, with players vying to outmaneuver and outproduce their opponents, further enhancing the game's replayability.
