Stories Untold is a compilation tape of four experimental adventures, including a remaster of the original hit episode “The House Abandon”.
The game starts with a traditional text-adventure format in the first episode, where players type commands to navigate the story. However, the gameplay evolves significantly in the subsequent episodes. Players will encounter point-and-click challenges, complex puzzle-solving, and even first-person exploration.
Rather than simply displaying text on a screen, the game renders a detailed 3D environment representing an old computer setup. Players interact directly with the on-screen monitor, keyboard, and other objects, creating a strong sense of presence and authenticity.
The puzzles in this game go beyond simple inventory-based challenges. Players must engage with various machines and devices, often in unexpected ways. For example, the radio communication segments involve deciphering coded messages and following intricate instructions, adding an extra layer of complexity.
As the narrative progresses, the gameplay mechanics evolve to match the changing story. Players may start with a familiar text adventure, but later find themselves operating scientific equipment, transmitting radio messages, and navigating first-person environments. This keeps the experience fresh and encourages players to adapt their problem-solving strategies.
The retro-inspired visuals, eerie sound design, and subtle narrative cues all contribute to a sense of dread and uncertainty, heightening the player's engagement with the unfolding mysteries.
Despite its relatively short length, the game offers some replayability through its narrative secrets and achievements. Players who thoroughly explore the environments and experiment with different interactions may uncover additional storylines or hidden details that enhance the overall experience.
