Run a Thieves Guild in a gas-lit Victorian city! Antihero is a fast-paced digital board game with an (Oliver) Twist. Recruit street urchins, hire thugs, start a gang, upgrade your guild, steal everything... and bribe, blackmail, and assassinate your way to victory.
In this turn-based digital board game, players take on the role of the head of a Victorian-era thieves' guild. The objective is to earn a set number of victory points before your opponent through various criminal activities and strategies.
Two main currencies drive the gameplay - Coins and Lanterns. Players must carefully balance spending Coins to recruit criminal units like Urchins, Thugs, and Gangs, while using Lanterns to unlock and upgrade abilities in the guild's tech tree. Effectively managing this economy is crucial to outperforming your opponent.
Each turn, you can recruit new units with unique abilities and strengths. For example, Urchins can infiltrate and control key buildings, Thugs can block enemy movement, and Gangs can attack other units. Strategically deploying the right mix of these units is essential to your success.
The map starts covered in fog of war. You must use your Master Thief character to scout the city and uncover the layout, allowing you to identify valuable buildings to infiltrate and control. Careful scouting grants an early advantage and denies your opponent's actions.
The primary goal is to earn a set number of victory points before your opponent. These points can be earned through various means, such as controlling key buildings, assassinating targets, or bribing officials. The specific victory conditions vary between maps, forcing you to adapt your strategies accordingly.
Unlike traditional turn-based games, you are not limited to a fixed number of actions per turn. Instead, you can move and perform actions as far as your units can reach within the scouted area, allowing for more dynamic and flexible strategies.
The game features a variety of maps with randomized building placements, as well as the ability to create custom "House Rules" to adjust the victory conditions and other mechanics. This, combined with the asynchronous multiplayer mode, provides a high degree of replayability and allows you to tailor the experience to your preferences.
