A fast paced multiplayer shooter that pits aliens against humans in a strategic and action-packed struggle for survival!
Players can choose to play as either the human Frontiersmen marines or the alien Kharaa lifeforms. The marines rely on ranged firearms like rifles, shotguns, and grenade launchers, while the aliens use melee attacks, mobility, and environmental traversal as their strengths. This creates a natural tension as the two sides attempt to counter each other's unique abilities.
One player on each team takes on the role of the Commander, overseeing the battle from a top-down perspective. Commanders can build structures, research new technologies, and direct their teammates. The remaining players execute the Commander's orders in the first-person shooter combat. This hybrid of tactical RTS and visceral FPS gameplay requires both strategic planning and swift, coordinated execution.
Success depends on players working together and sharing crucial information. Players must constantly communicate about enemy movements, structure status, and resource needs to support their teammates. Those who do not contribute to the team effort will quickly find themselves overwhelmed. The game rewards players who are willing to fill specialized roles and support the collective objective.
Within each faction, players can choose from several distinct lifeforms or classes. As marines, players can wield different weapon types or pilot powerful Exosuit mechs. As aliens, they can evolve into fast-moving Skulks, flying Lerks, support-focused Gorges, stealthy Fades, or the massive, devastating Onos. This diversity allows players to find a role that suits their individual preferences and playstyle.
Combat emphasizes skill and mastery over raw firepower. Weapons have no recoil or iron sights, requiring players to rely on their aim, positioning, and awareness to be effective. The lack of traditional "twitch" mechanics like headshots means that players of varying skill levels can contribute meaningfully to the team's success through direct combat, resource management, or tactical support.
Each match plays out differently, with the ebb and flow of territorial control, resource management, and technological progression creating a dynamic and unpredictable experience. The game does not have a predetermined "optimal" strategy, encouraging players to adapt their tactics to the evolving situation on the battlefield. Creative teamwork and split-second decision-making can turn the tide of battle.
