The game's supernatural mystery immediately grabs the player's attention, as they discover their character has been possessed by a demon and used to commit a year-long rampage of violence across New York City. This personal, high-stakes scenario powerfully invests the player in the narrative from the start.
The story branches based on the player's choice of three distinct protagonist backstories (bartender, actor, or police officer), each with their own opening sequence and unique dialogue options that influence how the plot unfolds.

The mission-based structure allows players to tackle supernatural cases in a non-linear order, providing a sense of agency and control over the pacing.
For each case, players can choose two companion characters from the Unavowed organization, and the unique abilities and personalities of these companions directly impact how puzzles are approached and solved.
The puzzles are logically designed, avoiding the "moon logic" that often plagues the point-and-click genre, and the streamlined exploration keeps the focus on progressing the story rather than aimless pixel-hunting.

The diverse cast of well-written characters, including a fire mage, a half-Jinn, and a recovering alcoholic ghost whisperer, possess distinct personalities that shine through in their entertaining banter and interactions.
