You are trapped on a train that runs forever. Keep an eye out for anomalies and find a way out.
The gameplay in this title differs significantly from the developer's previous release. Unlike the "spot the difference" observational mechanics of the prior game, this sequel requires players to actively engage with and survive the various anomalies they encounter as they progress forward through the train cars.
Rather than simply identifying anomalies, players must now figure out the specific steps or actions needed to safely navigate past each one. These range from following simple instructions displayed on digital signs (e.g. "Don't look", "Keep looking") to solving more complex mini-game-style puzzles that test the player's reflexes and problem-solving skills. This shift creates a more interactive and engaging experience, as players must actively participate in overcoming the obstacles presented.
Another key difference is the way progress and failure are handled. Whereas a single missed anomaly would reset the player's progress in the prior game, this sequel only results in lost progress if the player fails to properly deal with an anomaly. Otherwise, they can continue moving forward even if they miss an anomaly entirely. This creates a less punishing experience, allowing players to experiment and learn the appropriate responses without fear of starting over from the beginning.
The gameplay also maintains a more consistent sense of pacing and tension. Rather than the cyclical, looping nature of the previous title, players in this game continuously move forward, with anomalies appearing at regular intervals. This creates a more constant sense of unease and anticipation, as players never know when the next encounter will occur. The lack of the ability to turn back also heightens the sense of claustrophobia and entrapment, as players are forced to confront each anomaly head-on.
While the prior game was praised for its challenge and the sense of accomplishment from overcoming it, this sequel has been noted for its more accessible and approachable difficulty curve. The anomalies are generally more obvious, and the solutions more straightforward, allowing players to progress through the game at a faster pace. This may appeal to a wider audience and those who found the previous title too punishing, while still maintaining the core unsettling atmosphere and eerie encounters.
