TerraTech is an open-world, sandbox adventure game, where you design and build your own creations through a mix of crafting, combat and discovery. Design vehicles from a huge library of blocks. Scavenge, craft and buy new parts to survive and become the ultimate planetary prospector.
Players can design and build an impressive variety of customized vehicles by mixing and matching a vast library of modular blocks, including wheels, thrusters, weapons, and more. This open-ended building system allows for a remarkable level of creativity, enabling players to construct everything from nimble reconnaissance vehicles to heavily armored combat machines and sprawling resource-gathering platforms.
The game world is procedurally generated and infinitely expanding, providing players with a wide range of biomes to explore, each containing unique resources and terrain features. As they venture forth, players will encounter rival mining corporations and must defend their hard-earned vehicle parts and resources from these adversaries.
Gathering resources is a core aspect of the gameplay loop. Players can collect raw materials like ore, wood, and energy cells using specialized tools and components attached to their vehicles. These resources can then be processed and refined at the player's base, allowing them to create new blocks and continuously improve and expand their vehicle designs.
Four major mining corporations exist, each with their own distinct aesthetics and specialties. By completing missions and challenges for these factions, players can unlock access to more advanced and powerful blocks, providing a sense of progression and incentive to explore the different playstyles offered by each corporation.
During their travels, players will inevitably encounter and engage in combat with other vehicles, either controlled by AI or belonging to other players. The physics-based combat system allows for chaotic and unpredictable battles as players attempt to destroy their opponents and scavenge their parts. Additionally, players can 'invade' each other's games, leading to unexpected and thrilling encounters.
The combination of the building mechanics, resource management, and open-world exploration creates a deep and engaging gameplay loop that players can approach in numerous ways. The freedom to design their own unique vehicles, coupled with the unpredictable nature of the procedurally generated world, leads to a high degree of replayability and opportunities for emergent gameplay experiences.
