The 16-bit nightmare returns. Survive, hide, and avoid the deadly Scissorman in this legendary horror classic.
As Jennifer, a teenage orphan, players must navigate the haunting Barrows mansion in search of their missing friends, all while evading the relentless pursuit of the Scissorman, a psychopathic killer wielding a large pair of scissors. With no means to directly attack or defeat the Scissorman, players can only run, hide, and outsmart their pursuer.
Players can hide Jennifer under beds, in closets, or behind doors, forcing the Scissorman to actively search for her. If he finds her hiding spot, a tense "panic" sequence triggers, requiring players to rapidly press buttons to escape before being killed. The Rewind version enhances this gameplay, as the Scissorman's improved AI can now chase Jennifer through rooms and open doors to pursue her, making each encounter more intense and dynamic.
Thoroughly searching the Barrows mansion is crucial, as players must uncover items, clues, and secrets to aid their escape. The layout of the mansion is randomized to a degree, with the placements of certain rooms and items changed between playthroughs, adding an element of unpredictability. Progression involves solving environmental puzzles, such as finding the right key to unlock a door or combining items in the correct way, which can be challenging and occasionally obtuse.
The game features multiple possible endings, each with their own requirements and outcomes, encouraging repeated playthroughs as players experiment with different strategies and explore alternate paths. The addition of the "Rewind" mode further enhances replayability, allowing players to quickly rewind their progress and try different approaches when they make a mistake or encounter a dead end.
