❤ Gameplay Overview

Players take on the role of a hero tasked with exploring and conquering a randomly generated castle. The game features 2D action platforming with roguelike elements, including permanent character death and a progression system that carries over between runs.

❤ Character Progression and Traits

When the player's current character dies, they can select one of three randomized heirs to continue their legacy. These heirs possess a wide variety of unique traits, both positive and negative, that significantly impact the gameplay. These randomized traits provide benefits like increased attack power or movement speed, but also present challenges the player must adapt to. Additionally, players can invest the gold they earn into upgrading their manor, unlocking new character classes, increasing base stats, and gaining other permanent advantages.

❤ Procedurally Generated Levels

The layout, enemy placements, and item locations of the castle are all randomized each time the player selects a new heir. This ensures that no two playthroughs are exactly the same, encouraging exploration and adaptation. While the overall castle structure remains consistent, the randomization of individual rooms and encounters prevents players from simply memorizing a fixed path, keeping the gameplay fresh and challenging.

❤ Combat and Platforming

The game's 2D platforming and combat mechanics emphasize pattern recognition and precise execution. Players must navigate treacherous environments, utilizing techniques like double-jumping, wall-jumping, and dashing to reach new areas. In combat, players must learn enemy attack patterns and position themselves effectively to defeat foes.

❤ Replayability and Progression

The gameplay loop revolves around continuously attempting to progress deeper into the castle, despite the threat of permanent death. Each run, whether successful or not, contributes to the player's overall progression through the game's persistent upgrades and unlocks. This sense of gradual progress and empowerment helps to offset the frustration of repeated failures, keeping players engaged and motivated to continue their quest.
