What The Dub?! is a multiplayer party game where each player overdubs missing dialogue from hilariously awful B-movies, outdated PSAs, and bizarre industrial films, with their own witty (or just plain stupid) dubs!
Players take turns dubbing over missing dialogue from quirky, outdated videos. They watch a short clip with some of the dialogue removed, then submit their own humorous, witty, or outrageous replacement lines. The submitted lines are then read aloud using text-to-speech, and players vote on their favorite dub. The player whose dub receives the most votes wins the round.
The game supports 1-6 active players who can submit dubs, with an additional 12 audience members who can vote on the submissions. Players use their web-enabled devices like phones, tablets, or computers to input their dub text. This allows players to easily set up and play the game with friends online or in-person. The large audience size adds to the party atmosphere and gives more people a chance to participate.
Over 600 clips from a variety of sources, including B-movies, industrial films, and outdated public service announcements, ensure the content is consistently bizarre and ripe for comedic dubbing. Players can also expand the library by downloading community-created clip packs through the game's Steam Workshop integration.
The open-ended nature of the dub prompts allows players to let their creativity shine, going for witty, absurdist, or downright crude humor depending on their group's sensibilities. The inclusion of optional sound effects further enables players to enhance their dubs and express their comedic visions.
The text-to-speech system supports over 29 languages, allowing players from diverse backgrounds to participate. The game can also be played with as few as 3 players, or with an audience of up to 18 players, providing flexibility to accommodate different group sizes and preferences.
