Newly self-aware, I.R.I.S. the martial-arts wielding assassin motorcycle, has begun a cross-continent escape to freedom. I.R.I.S.’s only ally is her engineer Pablo, who gets conscripted into the quest after his pant leg gets caught in her chassis. Hunted by the psychopathic motorcycle S.P.I.K.E. and a multinational weapons cartel, I.R.I.
The game casts players as I.R.I.S., a self-aware, martial arts-wielding motorcycle who embarks on a cross-country journey to freedom. With her unwitting human companion Pablo stuck to her rear wheel, players must navigate I.R.I.S. through a diverse array of obstacles and enemies.
At the core of the experience, players guide I.R.I.S. as she automatically drives forward on a set path. Players are responsible for steering, shooting, and executing a variety of melee attacks to defeat the game's eclectic roster of adversaries. The combat system allows players to string together flashy, over-the-top martial arts combos, with proper timing and flow being crucial to defeating tougher foes and bosses.
In addition to the driving and combat sequences, the game presents players with a diverse mix of gameplay modes. This includes quick-time events that require rapid input of button prompts, minigames that test reflexes and dexterity (such as repairing I.R.I.S. or assisting Pablo), and aerial combat scenarios that introduce three-dimensional shooting and acrobatic challenges.
As players progress, they can earn points to upgrade I.R.I.S.'s various attributes and abilities, including enhancements to her firepower, defensive capabilities, and special attacks. These upgrades provide a tangible sense of progression and allow players to customize I.R.I.S. to suit their preferred playstyle.
Many players have praised the game's sheer absurdity and over-the-top nature, citing it as the primary strength. The ability to perform outrageous maneuvers, such as pile-driving other motorcycles or shooting down helicopters, resonates with those seeking a unique and unapologetically bonkers gameplay experience. Players have also lauded the tight controls, responsive combat system, and steady introduction of new enemy types and gameplay mechanics, all of which contribute to the game's addictive, arcade-like appeal. While the gameplay may be relatively simple at its core, the constant sense of momentum and the desire to see what crazy scenario unfolds next keep players engaged throughout the relatively short but highly entertaining campaign.
