Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II is a suspense-horror game set at a prestigious academy. When rumors circulate about supernatural occurrences at the famed Konoehara Academy in Tokyo’s H City, it’s up to the head of the Kujou family, also known as the “Spirit Doctor,” to take on the case.
A new 2D side-scrolling mechanic allows you to freely navigate the school and surrounding areas, such as the main building, infirmary, and forest. This provides a greater sense of physicality and interconnectedness compared to the more static visual novel format of the previous games.
During "Suspensive Acts" - time-limited events - you make choices that impact the success rate of your actions. The likelihood of success depends on the partner character you choose to accompany you. This partner system adds depth and replayability, as you strategize which companion provides the best support.
While the puzzle difficulty may have decreased compared to the first game, exploring the environments to uncover clues, collectibles, and interactive points of interest still provides a satisfying sense of discovery and progression. The freedom to freely explore, rather than being restricted to a linear visual novel format, enhances the immersive player-directed experience.
