Scrap hunting season has gone wrong, VHS slasher survival horror.
You take on the role of Adam, a character trapped inside an abandoned post office. To escape, you must navigate the creepy, maze-like environment, carefully moving around corners and through doorways to survey your surroundings. The game utilizes a fixed camera perspective, requiring you to plan your movements. You'll uncover items and solve puzzles, such as finding the right key to open a locked door, in order to progress.
The primary threat is the Snipper, a cardboard-masked killer armed with a large pair of scissors. The Snipper will relentlessly pursue you, forcing you to hide in lockers, stalls, and other tight spaces to avoid being caught and instantly killed. The tension is heightened by the Snipper's unpredictable movements and the sudden, jarring sound of his approaching footsteps and snipping scissors.
When the Snipper is nearby, the game shifts to a tense hide-and-seek experience. You must quickly locate suitable hiding spots and hold your breath, waiting for the Snipper to pass by before cautiously resuming your exploration. Failing to hide in time results in a gruesome death, sending you back to the last checkpoint.
The game's checkpoint system helps alleviate some of the frustration. When you are killed, you respawn at the last checkpoint with your progress and collected items intact, allowing you to try again without losing significant progress. This design choice makes the game more accessible, catering to both skilled and casual players.
The game fully embraces the classic survival horror aesthetic, with tank-style controls and a cinematic camera that can occasionally hinder navigation. However, this contributes to the tense, claustrophobic atmosphere, immersing you in the eerie, VHS-inspired world.
