Unravel the mysteries of death, and find the answers to life.A unique Mystery-Adventure Game:The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story
The game divides each case into three distinct phases. First, players watch live-action video footage that depicts the unfolding of a murder, allowing them to observe key clues and details. Next, players enter a "mind palace" interface where they can examine and connect various clues and evidence to form hypotheses about the crime through a tile-matching mechanic. Finally, in the Solution Phase, players present their deduced hypotheses to the suspects, attempting to identify the true culprit through a process of refuting incorrect theories.
The core of the gameplay lies in the Reasoning Phase, where players must carefully examine the clues gathered during the Incident and link them to the relevant mysteries surrounding the case. By dragging and dropping clue tiles onto corresponding mystery tiles, the game generates hypotheses that provide potential explanations for various aspects of the crime. However, the game makes it clear that not all hypotheses will be correct, encouraging players to thoughtfully consider which ones best fit the overall evidence.
The game does not force players down a linear path of solving the cases. Instead, it allows for a more open-ended approach, where players can freely explore different hypotheses and lines of reasoning without fear of "failing" or reaching a dead end. Even if players present an incorrect hypothesis during the Solution Phase, the game will simply refute it and allow them to try again, rather than ending the game.
Players have highlighted the sense of satisfaction that comes from carefully piecing together the clues and formulating their own hypotheses. The game presents a fair, logical challenge that rewards players' observational skills and deductive reasoning abilities. The willingness to present unexpected twists and misdirections adds to the sense of accomplishment, as players feel a genuine sense of triumph when they uncover the true culprit or unravel the deeper mysteries.
