Carefully designed, beautifully remastered, and loaded with new ways to play—Risk of Rain is back and better than ever! Dive into the iconic roguelike full of unique loot combinations, enhanced with new Survivors, overhauled multiplayer, fan favorite content from Risk of Rain 2, and more!
The developers have carefully preserved the central gameplay loop of the beloved 2D roguelike original while making meaningful improvements. Players take control of one of the game's 15 unique Survivors, each with new abilities to master, and must battle through procedurally generated levels, defeating enemies and bosses while collecting powerful items that can drastically alter the gameplay.
One of the key upgrades is the improved controls and responsiveness. Players can now shoot while moving, rather than having to stop and aim, making the moment-to-moment combat feel much more fluid and engaging. Additionally, the option to use the free-aiming mechanics of the sequel allows players accustomed to that style of play to seamlessly transition.
The expanded Survivor roster and alternate abilities introduce fresh ways to approach the gameplay and strategic considerations. For example, the Enforcer can hold the front line and shield their team, while the Drifter gathers scrap from conquered foes to temporarily empower teammates or unleash area-wide destruction.
The developers have streamlined progression and unlocks, allowing players to teleport to the next level after defeating the boss without the requirement of clearing all enemies. This reduces tedium and enables a more focused, fast-paced experience. Players can also pursue a robust system of challenges and secrets to discover, providing meaningful goals and incentives to continue playing.
Flexible difficulty options enable a more customized experience, as players can independently adjust the damage dealt by enemies and the damage taken. The inclusion of Artifacts, which can drastically modify the gameplay in unique ways, further enhances the ability to tailor each run to one's liking.
The seamless online and local co-op experience, with support for up to four players, strengthens the social and collaborative aspects of the game. The overhauled netcode eliminates the need for complex port forwarding, allowing players to tackle the challenge together with ease.
