The turn-based combat closely emulates the tabletop Warhammer 40,000 experience. Each unit has a set number of action points to move, shoot, melee, and use special abilities. Players must thoughtfully allocate these actions to outmaneuver and overwhelm opponents. Positioning is crucial, as you'll need to utilize cover, high ground, and flanking attacks to gain an edge. The combat system features a satisfying "rock-paper-scissors" dynamic, requiring players to master unit interactions and build a balanced army.

A unique mechanic is the Momentum system. Killing enemies and accomplishing objectives will build Momentum, which you can then spend to "Surge" certain units. When a unit Surges, they gain extra actions or enhanced abilities, allowing you to chain devastating combos. Carefully managing and spending Momentum is a key strategic consideration.

Between battles, you can customize your army by selecting unit types, equipping them with various weapon loadouts, and unlocking upgrades through a tech tree progression system. This allows for a high degree of tactical flexibility, as you can tailor your force to counter specific enemy compositions. As you progress, you'll gradually unlock new unit types and abilities, giving you more options to experiment with.

In addition to the main campaign, the game offers several other modes to enjoy. The Skirmish mode allows you to set up custom battles, while the Planetary Supremacy mode introduces a larger strategic layer of conquering territories. The Daemonic Incursion mode provides a unique last-stand experience, challenging players to hold out against waves of Khorne daemons. Each mode offers a slightly different tactical challenge.
