Dungeon and Puzzles is a dungeon adventure themed Sokoban game. The movement and direction are restricted, and the adventurer's ability can be changed by equipment at hand. Think through every step, destroy every monster and find a way to the end of the dungeon where the treasure awaits.
The adventurer can only move in a straight line until hitting an obstacle, requiring precise planning of each move. This sliding movement mechanic, reminiscent of Sokoban games, forms the core of the gameplay.
Players have access to four specialized equipment items: - Sword: Kills adjacent monsters in a single hit - Bow and Arrow: Shoots an arrow in a chosen direction to eliminate distant enemies - Shield: Pushes objects and monsters when the player moves - Glove: Allows the player to pull objects and monsters towards them Switching between these items is crucial, as each one serves a distinct purpose in solving the puzzles.
The goal in each of the 150 levels is to eliminate all monsters and reach the exit. However, the game also provides a recommended number of moves to complete each level. This introduces an optimization challenge, as players must not only solve the puzzle, but find the most efficient solution possible to match or beat the par score. Many levels offer multiple valid solutions, encouraging players to experiment and refine their approach to minimize the number of moves required. As the game progresses, the puzzles become increasingly complex, demanding more careful planning and execution to reach the par score.
Even after clearing a level, players can revisit it to improve their solution and earn a coveted "gold crown" for beating the par. The ability to undo moves and instantly retry a level makes this experimentation process seamless. The game's "footprint" replay system allows players to analyze their progress, identify areas for improvement, and work towards mastering each puzzle.
