Wield your weapon bestowed by the gods, and open the gates between worlds!
Players take on the role of "KAMIKO" priestesses and battle demons while solving puzzles to progress through the game's stages. The goal is to break the seals on several Torii gates in each stage in order to reach the stage boss.
One of the key aspects of the gameplay is the ability to choose between three distinct playable characters. Yamato wields a short-range, sweeping sword and focuses on fast-paced combo attacks, making her the easiest character for beginners. Uzume fights with a long-range bow, requiring players to stop moving while firing. This steeper difficulty curve allows for more cautious, ranged play. Hinome equips a mid-range boomerang-like weapon alongside a weaker close-range staff, and her complex moveset demands high skill but is well-suited for speedrunning.
The satisfying combat system centers around a basic attack combo and a chargeable special move. Defeating enemies fills up a stamina meter, which players must manage to interact with environmental puzzles and obstacles. Uniquely, players cannot attack or dash while carrying important items like keys or orbs, forcing them to carefully navigate enemy-filled areas while avoiding combat.
The game is divided into four distinct stages, each with its own visual theme and enemy types. Within each stage, players must locate and activate four Torii gates by solving puzzles and defeating enemies. The level design emphasizes exploration and backtracking, as players may need to revisit previously cleared areas to find new paths or collectibles.
The arcade-inspired design and short stage length make the game well-suited for speedrunning. The game tracks the player's completion time for each stage, as well as a total time for the entire game, creating a compelling challenge for players looking to optimize their runs.
