Each class has access to hundreds of different weapons and equipment, from conventional firearms to outrageous sci-fi plasma guns and missile batteries. As players progress, they can unlock upgraded versions of these tools, creating a deep and rewarding loot grind. Finding the right combination of weapons and gear for each class is a key part of the gameplay loop. Dispatching the wide range of enemy types, from gigantic insects and reptilian aliens to humanoid "Primer" foes, provides constant challenge. Blasting off limbs, reducing enemies to goo, and otherwise destroying the hordes of invaders delivers a constant sense of over-the-top, cathartic satisfaction.

The environmental destruction also ramps up the mayhem, as careless (or intentional) use of heavy weaponry can level entire city blocks. Watching buildings crumble and debris fly amidst a hail of laser blasts and missile strikes creates a sense of over-the-top spectacle. Players must balance the need to eliminate enemies with the desire to preserve the cityscape.
