Somewhere in the future a hostile alien race conquers most of the galaxy. Scientists developed the “Millennium Soldier” project by cloning two super-soldiers. Armed with blasters they will battle scores of monsters, robots and boss aliens to save us and get a well-earned reward.
Players laud the wide variety of weapons at the player's disposal, allowing them to switch between classic blasters and more unique, powerful special firearms to take down hordes of alien enemies.
While the default control scheme, especially with mouse and keyboard, feels "clunky" to some, players discover they can greatly improve the experience by remapping the controls or using a gamepad. When properly configured, the controls become responsive and well-suited to the precise, frenetic aiming required.
The game presents an extremely challenging experience, even on the easiest difficulty. Waves of enemies inflict heavy damage, testing players' shooting skills. Some find this classic "arcade-style" difficulty rewarding, evoking a "just one more try" mentality, while others feel the high challenge is unfairly unforgiving.
Beyond the core shooting, the gameplay is further elevated by various secrets and environmental interactions that can produce humorous or unexpected results. Enemies performing silly dances or throwing snowballs when certain conditions are met add an element of fun unpredictability.
