The perfect game to back-stab your friends. Project Winter is an 8-person multiplayer game focusing on social deception and survival. Communication and teamwork are essential to the survivors’ ultimate goal of escape.
Players must actively manage their character's hunger, thirst, and body temperature to avoid freezing or starving. Gathering resources like food, firewood, and crafting materials is crucial for repairing the escape objectives and staying alive. Exploring the randomly-generated map to find caches of supplies and shelter is an important part of the gameplay loop.
Effective communication and teamwork are essential for the survivors to succeed. Players can use proximity-based voice chat, private radio channels, and text chat to coordinate their efforts. Working together to gather resources, repair objectives, and protect each other from the elements and wildlife is key. However, the presence of two traitor-role players means survivors must be wary of who they trust.
The traitor roles add an element of social deduction and deception to the gameplay. Traitors are outnumbered at the start, so they must carefully blend in with the survivors, earn their trust, and then sabotage their efforts when the time is right. Spreading misinformation, framing innocent players, and isolating survivors are some of the tactics traitors can employ to achieve their goal of preventing the survivors from escaping.
Players randomly receive one of several different roles at the start of each match, such as Survivor, Traitor, Hunter, and Scientist. Each role has unique abilities and objectives that affect the gameplay. For example, Survivors may have special tools or skills to help the group, while Traitors have access to unique items and methods to undermine the survivors.
The gameplay is designed to be highly replayable, with different objectives, map layouts, and events occurring each match. Repairing various escape objectives, such as a radio tower or a rescue vehicle, requires careful coordination and strategic planning. The unpredictable nature of the traitors' actions and the changing environmental conditions lead to emergent, dynamic gameplay experiences that keep players on their toes.
