The perfect game to back-stab your friends. Project Winter is an 8-person multiplayer game focusing on social deception and survival. Communication and teamwork are essential to the survivors’ ultimate goal of escape.
Players divide into two teams - "Survivors" and "Traitors" - in a winter wilderness setting. Survivors must work together to complete repair objectives and escape, while Traitors attempt to sabotage these efforts. The gameplay focuses on resource gathering, crafting, communication, and deception.
Survivors must repair various objectives around the randomly generated map to call and reach an escape vehicle. They gather wood, ore, and food, craft necessary items, and defend against hostile wildlife and Traitor attacks. Survivors communicate using proximity-based voice chat, radios, and text chat to coordinate their efforts, but must constantly question who they can trust.
Traitors aim to prevent the Survivors from escaping. They start with fewer resources and abilities, so they rely on deception, sabotage, and opportunistic attacks. Traitors use special items like trap-setting tools and poisons to hinder the Survivors. They can also blend in with the Survivors, earning trust before striking.
Players manage hunger, thirst, and body temperature to avoid environmental hazards. The randomized map requires exploration to locate objectives. Crafting allows creating tools, weapons, and consumables. Different roles, such as Scientist and Hunter, provide unique abilities for both teams.
The social deception, survival mechanics, and randomized elements result in unpredictable gameplay. Strategies constantly evolve based on the situation, teammate/opponent abilities, and shifting group dynamics. This high degree of emergent gameplay, along with varied roles and game modes, contributes to strong replayability.
