Civil war has broken out across Erebonia. After his narrow escape from Trista, Rean will take up his sword again on a journey with his Divine Knight, Valimar, in search of his friends from Class VII and a way to end the conflict before its price becomes far too dear...
Players control a party of up to four characters, each with unique combat arts, skills, and abilities. The turn-based combat system requires strategic positioning, timing of attacks, and careful use of special abilities to overcome challenges. For example, players can exploit enemy weaknesses by chaining together elemental spells, or coordinate party members to perform devastating combo attacks.
A key combat mechanic is the Link System, which allows characters to form bonds and support each other. Linked characters can execute cooperative attacks, guard one another, and even heal teammates. The new Overdrive mode takes this a step further, enabling linked characters to attack multiple times in rapid succession for increased damage and strategic advantage.
The game provides extensive options to customize the party. Characters can equip a variety of weapons, armor, and accessories that grant passive and active abilities. The quartz crafting system allows players to imbue their party members with elemental attributes and unique skills, further enhancing their combat roles and synergies.
Boss battles often involve complex enemy patterns, summoned minions, and the need to exploit weaknesses. Overcoming these fights requires mastery of the combat system, including managing character abilities, positioning, and link-based strategies. Defeating challenging bosses can be immensely satisfying for players who have honed their skills.
The expansive game world can be freely explored, with new means of transportation, such as an airship and customizable bike, providing additional options for traversal. Exploration is rewarded with valuable items, side quests, and opportunities to deepen relationships with party members.
