Furious Angels is a brutal score attack shooter with different waves each day. Compete on the leaderboards, transform into a flying tank and shred the skies to pieces!
The objective is to protect a mothership by blasting through increasingly difficult waves of enemy ships. The gameplay focuses on high-intensity dogfighting and racking up high scores.
Players can use a mouse, where the left button fires weapons, the right button thrusts, and holding fire allows recharging and repairing. Alternatively, players can use a twin-stick control scheme with a gamepad or a combination of mouse and keyboard (WASD for movement). The ship's movement has a sense of weight and inertia, rather than instant changes in direction. This creates a skill-based challenge in maneuvering and strafing around enemies, as players need to anticipate the ship's momentum to effectively dodge incoming fire.
As players destroy enemy ships, they can unlock four distinct upgrade stages for their fighter craft, each with unique weapon systems. The upgrades transform the player's ship from a nimble jet fighter to a heavily-armed, slow-moving "flying tank." Carefully managing the tradeoffs between firepower and mobility is crucial to surviving the onslaught.
The game features daily leaderboards, where players compete to achieve the highest score. The enemy wave patterns randomize each day, providing a fresh challenge. This, combined with the game's short, high-intensity play sessions, encourages players to keep coming back and trying to improve their personal bests.
While the game starts off relatively straightforward, the difficulty ramps up quickly. Surviving the later waves requires excellent reflexes, positioning, and management of the ship's various capabilities. The game is described as "easy to learn, but hard to master," rewarding players who take the time to hone their skills.
