❤ Objective and Core Mechanics

You control a character who must catch falling hats on their head. This is the core gameplay loop - you move your character left and right, trying to position them under the descending hats to catch them. The challenge comes from the fact that there are often other non-player characters (NPCs) on the screen who can obscure your view and make it difficult to discern which character is yours.

❤ Increasing Complexity

As you progress through the levels, the gameplay becomes more complex. Objects besides just hats, such as anvils, fridges, and stop signs, begin falling from the sky, which you must avoid. The screen also becomes more crowded with additional NPCs that can visually blend in with your character, making it harder to track where you are. Additionally, a wizard character can cast spells that alter the gameplay, such as making the ground slippery or rotating the screen.

❤ Scoring and Progression

You score points by catching hats, which serve as the game's currency. You can use the collected hats to purchase "alter egos" - additional character skins that appear on screen to potentially confuse you. Reaching certain hat collection milestones also awards you with "gifts" - minigames and bonuses that provide variety and breaks from the core hat-catching gameplay.

❤ Minigames and Branching Narratives

The game features a variety of unlockable minigames that you can access through the gifting system. These minigames range from a hat dating simulator to an embezzlement management game, adding humor and unexpected diversions to the experience. Interacting with these minigames can also unlock new narrative paths and content.

❤ Replayability and Progression

While the core hat-catching gameplay is relatively simple, the game provides a good amount of replayability and progression through its systems of collectible hats, unlockable alter egos, and branching minigames. The game's absurdist humor and the developer's signature comedic writing also provide incentive for you to continue engaging with the content.
