Land on a planet, pick up some rocks, leave before the solar system explodes. Oh, and don't die in the nightly robot attacks! Freaking Meatbags is a humorous real-time strategy game that's all about building a base, mixing meatbag DNA, then convincing those dolts to help you gather resources.
Starting each level with limited materials, players must carefully construct defensive structures and towers to fend off waves of rampaging enemy robots. Effective resource management is key. Players must send their hapless human "meatbag" workers to gather metals, ores, and steel, then use these resources to build machine gun turrets, missile silos, and electrical traps. Between levels, players can spend accumulated resources to upgrade their robot commander, defensive buildings, and worker units.
One of the game's unique mechanics is the ability to splice DNA from different species. Players can combine the genetic material of humans and aliens to create hybrid worker units with special abilities, like laser eyes or extra appendages for faster mining. Carefully choosing which traits to combine becomes an important strategic consideration.
As the campaign progresses, levels introduce new challenges, such as limited building space or surprise enemy attacks at nightfall. Players must adapt their base defenses and worker deployment accordingly. The final boss battle in particular is noted as a significant difficulty spike that requires mastering the game's various systems.
