Players must weigh the risks and benefits of engaging in combat versus avoiding it, as battles can be punishing. Successfully chaining together combos of cards and managing resources is key to progressing.

Rather than a traditional map, exploration is based on a unique "travel system" where players navigate a deck of travel cards. These cards represent different locations, events, and encounters that players can choose to engage with. This adds an additional layer of strategy as players must carefully decide which paths to take and how to manage their resources, like fuel for their vehicle, during their journey.

Between runs, players can use resources gathered during their adventures to permanently upgrade their base of operations.
