Freedom Fall

by Stirfire Studios

The Developer Says...

Freedom Fall is a diabolical down-scrolling platformer set in a prison tower so tall it touches the clouds. Presented with hand painted art, its old school vibe mixes with fast-paced free falling action and a story with both dark wit and heart.

Players Like...

❤ Platforming Mechanics

Players maneuver the protagonist, Marsh, as he falls down the tower, using smooth jumping, wall-grabbing, and midair control to avoid a variety of deadly traps and obstacles. Several gadgets, including a glider, double-jump wings, and a hover board, can be purchased with in-game currency collected throughout the levels, providing additional tools to aid navigation.

❤ Level Design

Each stage presents a unique vertical challenge, with a mix of straightforward and devious paths. Players often choose between an "easy" and "hard" route, adding an element of replayability and challenge. The levels flow well, with a good sense of rhythm as players navigate the perils. Generously placed checkpoints ensure that death doesn't result in excessive backtracking.

❤ Traps and Obstacles

The game's defining feature is the variety and intensity of the traps and obstacles. Spikes, flames, swinging blades, and other deadly hazards force players to time their jumps and movements precisely, as a single touch results in instant death. However, the visual clarity of the threats and the fairness of the level design allow for skillful navigation.

❤ Story Integration

As players descend, they encounter taunting, humorous, and occasionally insightful messages left by the antagonist, the princess, on the tower's walls. This narrative device adds character and personality, providing additional context and motivation beyond the core platforming challenges.

❤ Replayability and Challenges

While the main campaign can be completed relatively quickly, players find ample replayability in the game's various challenges and achievements, such as speed-running levels, minimizing deaths, and collecting all the in-game currency. Leaderboards encourage players to hone their skills and compete for the best times and scores, adding a sense of progression and mastery to the gameplay.
