A lovecraftian roguelike. Dive into procedurally generated undersea caves. Collect gold, upgrade your equipment, and Feed the Deep.
As a scuba diver, players must carefully navigate through the game's procedurally generated underwater caves. Using tools like glow sticks and a scanner, they uncover the winding layouts and illuminate the dark environments. Maintaining a constant awareness of the diver's limited oxygen supply adds tension and urgency to the exploration.
Throughout the caves, players collect valuable resources such as gold, oxygen tanks, and unique items. They can then spend these resources at a surface shop between expeditions to permanently upgrade the diver's capabilities. This includes increasing oxygen capacity, carrying strength, and unlocking special abilities - incrementally enhancing the player's chance of survival with each successive dive.
Each of the six expedition levels presents the player with distinctive objectives and complications to overcome. For instance, some missions task the player with locating and activating a "chum" to "feed the Deep", while others involve navigating maze-like environments or completing minigame-style challenges. The varied level designs, limited visibility, hostile creatures, and explosive hazards constantly force players to adapt their strategies.
The diver's movement and interactions leverage a physics-based system that realistically simulates the underwater environment. Players must carefully manage their momentum and payload when maneuvering through tight spaces or carrying multiple items. This adds an extra layer of skill and precision to the exploration and problem-solving.
