Growth is a cozy, hexagonal-grid based soft-strategy game. Explore and populate a procedurally generated world by utilizing unique abilities of animals. Growth blends the beauty of cozy exploration with challenging navigation around obstacles.
You explore and populate a procedurally generated world by utilizing the unique abilities of different animals. The objective is to uncover and connect tiles on the hexagonal grid to expand your influence and gain more animals to aid in your exploration.
You start with a small habitat in the center, obscured by a "fog of war". You must send out different animals, each with unique movement abilities, to reveal the surrounding tiles. By connecting these tiles into larger habitats, you acquire more animals to use.
Managing your limited animal resources is crucial. Once an animal is sent out to explore, it is no longer available until the next turn. You must carefully plan your moves, balancing the need to expand your reach with conserving enough animals to maintain your existing habitats. Acquiring new animals through habitat expansion is key to sustaining progress and avoiding game over.
The map features various terrain types, such as mountains and rivers, which act as obstacles that must be navigated using the appropriate animal abilities. Strategically deploying the right animals at the right time is essential for overcoming these challenges and reaching new areas of the map.
Scattered across the map are "Points of Interest" that reward you with additional animals or special abilities when uncovered. These points of interest add an extra layer of exploration and incentive, as you must balance your desire to uncover new areas with the need to secure these valuable rewards.
Each playthrough features a randomly generated map, ensuring that no two experiences are exactly the same. This procedural generation, combined with the strategic decision-making required to navigate the various obstacles and terrain types, contributes to the game's high replayability.
The final objective is to "soothe" a hidden volcano located in the last, most challenging area of the map. This endgame scenario introduces additional obstacles, such as lava rivers, that require precise planning and resource management to overcome.
