As you progress through the game's roguelike challenges, you can acquire new Critter, Skill, and Sticker cards in several ways. Defeating opponents allows you to directly trade cards with them, strategically exchanging your weaker cards for their more powerful ones. You can also purchase booster packs from shops and vending machines, uncovering rare cards to add to your growing collection. Additionally, cards you use during successful challenge runs become "mastered" and are permanently added to your personal card binder. This binder serves as a deck-building sandbox, allowing you to freely experiment with different card combinations and strategies.
At the heart of the gameplay are the Critter card battles. You deploy a team of up to 3 Critters, each with their own HP, attack power, and elemental affinities. Skillfully positioning your Critters to exploit weaknesses, while using Skill cards that synergize with your active Critters, is key to victory. Many Critters also have unique special abilities, such as healing, applying debuffs, or evading attacks, adding an extra layer of tactical depth to the combat.
The game's roguelike structure and progression systems enhance the overall replayability. You'll venture through a series of increasingly difficult challenge runs, with the option to take on rival "boss" battles for greater rewards. Completing these challenges allows you to permanently add new cards to your Master Binder, which you can then use to construct custom decks for the Championship mode. Additionally, unlocking various in-game achievements rewards you with new Critter and Skill cards to experiment with. The randomized layout of each challenge run, combined with the ability to build diverse deck strategies, ensures that no two experiences are exactly the same.
