A visual novel paying satirical homage to the world’s greatest TTRPG. Make important choices, roll countless dice, build lasting relationships, explore magical lands and experience all the rest of the crap you expect from a fantasy game without the hassle of finding actual friends to play with!
The gameplay primarily revolves around a visual novel-style narrative, placing you in the role of a new member joining an established RPG group as they play through a side campaign of the tabletop game "Basements n' Basilisks". You progress through the story by reading the dialogue between your player character and the other party members, as well as the game master, referred to as the "BM".
At key moments, the game prompts you to roll a pair of six-sided dice to determine the outcome of certain actions or events within the Basements n' Basilisks game. The seamless integration of these dice rolling mechanics adds an element of randomness and chance, reflecting the unpredictable nature of tabletop role-playing.
The narrative structure offers a degree of replayability, as your choices and dice rolls can lead to branching paths with different story outcomes and character interactions. Completing the game multiple times is necessary to see the full scope of available content and endings.
One of the game's greatest strengths is its ability to authentically capture the experience of playing a tabletop role-playing game. The banter between the party members, the dynamic between the players and the game master, and the meta-commentary on RPG tropes all contribute to a sense of immersion and familiarity for players with TTRPG experience.
