Join a gothic battle where Good confronts Evil using roguelike deckbuilding mechanics. Play as either side, invading Alaric's Castle, or as Alaric himself defending against the invading heroes!
The game lets you choose between two vastly different gameplay experiences. In the "Deliverance" mode, you control a heroic character assaulting the castle of the tyrannical ruler, Alaric. Conversely, the "Reign" mode casts you as Alaric himself, defending his castle against the invading heroes.
Deliverance plays out like a classic roguelike deckbuilder. You select from six unique hero classes, each with 37 distinct skills and loadouts. As you battle through the castle's dangerous floors, you strategically build your deck, carefully choosing from 25 weapons, 53 artifacts, and 25 blessings to overcome increasingly challenging enemy minions and boss encounters. A standout mechanic is the lack of a mana system - you can freely play all cards in your hand, encouraging aggressive, tactical decision-making to eliminate threats quickly. Status effects that get replaced by new ones, either beneficial or detrimental, add an extra layer of resource management to your plays.
In the Reign mode, you take on the role of Alaric, using six malevolent factions to protect your castle against the invading heroes. You must strategically position your 31 unique minion units and spells across the castle's three floors, creating effective defensive setups to stop the enemy's advance. Each faction has its own strengths, weaknesses, and quirks, requiring you to adapt your strategies to synergize their capabilities. The mode's 14 boss battles demand you develop specialized tactics to overcome the heroes' forces and preserve Alaric's reign.
A seamless integration between the two modes allows you to freely switch between Deliverance and Reign at any time, sharing your progress, unlocks, and achievements. This cohesive structure ensures a sense of continuity as you explore both the heroic and villainous perspectives.
Deliverance & Reign is praised for its high-difficulty challenges, which are further amplified by the "Hell Layers" - unlockable modifiers that push even seasoned players to their limits. The varied enemy types, boss encounters, and unique mechanics in each mode contribute to the game's depth and longevity, keeping you engaged and eager to devise new strategies.
