❤ Expansive Scope and Scale

The game map covers the entirety of North America at a 15km/9mi scale, totaling over 66,000 hexes. This allows players to maneuver forces across vast distances, from the East Coast to the Trans-Mississippi West. Navigating the intricate river networks and deploying naval assets become crucial to success.

❤ Resource Management and Research

Players must carefully allocate limited resources between recruiting and upgrading military units, advancing technological research, and attempting to sway the diplomatic stances of European powers. Technological progress unlocks new unit types and capabilities, forcing players to continually adapt their strategies. Decisions about research priorities can significantly impact the course of the war.

❤ Fog of War and Reconnaissance

The game's fog of war mechanic limits players' visibility of enemy troop movements and positions. Effectively utilizing cavalry units, scouts, balloons, and other assets for reconnaissance becomes essential to avoiding costly ambushes. Mastering the reconnaissance system is a key strategic challenge.

❤ Military Command and Deployment

Players must organize volunteer forces into effective brigades, divisions, and corps, while appointing skilled generals to lead them. Positioning and maneuvering these forces across the vast map is a constant strategic puzzle, with the appointment of talented commanders often proving the difference between victory and defeat.

❤ Alternate History Possibilities

The game offers "what if" scenarios that allow players to explore alternate histories of the Civil War, including the possibility of European intervention on the side of the Confederacy and the ramifications of events like the Emancipation Proclamation. These create the potential for emergent narratives that deviate from the historical record, adding to the game's replayability.
