Redo is a world without sorrow created by the virtuadoll Regret. Virtuadoll songs give Redo residents respite from their struggles. Our protagonists discover the truth and form the Go-Home Club to return to reality. Make your way home with companions bearing heavy burdens in this school-themed RPG.
The core gameplay revolves around the "Imaginary Chain" combat system, which allows players to preview the outcomes of their actions before executing them. When selecting an ability, the game simulates how it will play out, enabling strategic timing of attacks and maneuvers. Players can leverage this future-sight mechanic to coordinate complex combos, intercept enemy attacks, and position characters to maximize damage and minimize risk. The system rewards careful planning and execution, as properly timed attacks can juggle enemies in the air or chain together devastating multi-hit combos. Compared to the previous entry, the combat has received several refinements. Players are now limited to a single action per turn, rather than queuing up multiple actions. This creates more tense, moment-to-moment decision making as players must precisely time their moves. Additionally, a new "Voltage" mechanic has been introduced, which builds up during battles. Once a certain voltage threshold is reached, the party can trigger a powerful "χ-Jack" ability that dramatically shifts the tide of combat. These χ-Jack abilities are tied to songs performed by the mysterious virtuadoll χ, adding an extra layer of strategy as players choose which song to utilize.
Each party member has a unique "Catharsis Effect" class that defines their core combat abilities, from damage-dealing Strikers to support-focused Protectors. Players can further augment their party by equipping "Stigmas" - special abilities and stat boosts that can be freely swapped out. This flexibility in build customization, paired with the dynamic Imaginary Chain combat, creates an engaging gameplay loop of planning, executing, and fine-tuning your party's capabilities. The game's skill tree system also gives players control over how their characters progress, enabling them to specialize in certain abilities or maintain a more balanced approach.
While combat is the core focus, the game also features exploration and side content that complement the main story. Players can traverse the virtual world, interacting with NPCs and accepting quests through the in-game "WIRE" messaging system. These side quests often delve into the backstories and motivations of the world's residents, providing additional context and character development. Completing these quests can also unlock new abilities, items, and story events, encouraging players to thoroughly engage with the game's world and inhabitants. The exploration aspect, while not as open-ended as some other RPGs, still offers a sense of discovery as players uncover hidden areas, collectibles, and other secrets scattered throughout the town hubs and dungeons. This layered approach to gameplay, balancing dynamic combat with narrative-driven side content, helps to create a well-rounded and compelling experience.
