Hands of Necromancy is a Dark Fantasy FPS metroidvania, inspired by classics such as Heretic and made with the GZDoom engine. Wield weapons, magic or transform into a fearsome monster to slay your foes, then raise them as undead servants and unleash even more carnage to become a master Necromancer!
Interconnected, hub-based levels encourage thorough exploration to uncover secrets and unlock new paths. Verticality and complex geometry create a sense of adventure as players traverse diverse environments, from lush countryside to haunting cemeteries and vast castles. Transforming into creatures like a serpent, golem, or demon grants access to previously inaccessible areas, adding a Metroidvania-style layer of platforming and progression.
Players can choose from a wide variety of weapons and spells, such as scythes, fireballs, ice magic, and tornado abilities. Effectively switching between these options is crucial, as each excels against specific enemy types. Transformation abilities unlock unique combat skills, allowing players to, for example, breathe underwater as a serpent or incinerate foes as a demonic creature. Careful resource management is required, as players must balance using their varied abilities and items efficiently against challenging encounters.
Offers multiple difficulty settings, from a more forgiving "easy" mode to a punishingly "hard" experience. Enemies possess substantial health pools, posing a serious threat, especially when encountered in groups. The lack of handholding forces players to rely on their own problem-solving skills, adding a deep sense of accomplishment when progressing through the game. The old-school, skill-focused gameplay evokes the spirit of classic titles like Hexen and Heretic.
