Ghostlore is an 'Eastpunk' Action-RPG where you fight supernatural monsters from Southeast-Asian folklore. Inspired by classic ARPGs such as Diablo 2 and Titan Quest, Ghostlore features detailed item and character customization systems, procedurally generated maps, and awesome 90's retro graphics.
The game lets you combine abilities from up to three out of six different character classes. Each class has four active skills and four passive skills, which you can mix and match to create your own customized build. This provides a high degree of build diversity and replayability, as you can experiment with different class combinations to find powerful skill synergies.
The skill system revolves around a grid-based layout, where you slot in your active skills and passive skill modifiers. The positioning of these skills and modifiers on the grid is important, as certain combinations can create advanced "combo skills" that blend the effects of the two base skills. This encourages careful planning and optimization of the skill grid to maximize the power of your abilities.
In addition to the skill grid, the game features a unique "Glyph" system, which are special rune-like items you can inscribe onto your character's body to gain new powers and bonuses. These Glyphs come in different sizes and shapes, and you can combine them in specific patterns to create "Compound Glyphs" that provide additional benefits. This layered customization system adds another satisfying dimension to character building.
The game's environments are procedurally generated, providing a sense of variety and replayability to the exploration and dungeon crawling. Once you complete the main campaign, you can tackle the "Hell Gate Island" endgame, which features an infinitely scaling, procedurally generated dungeon that challenges you to see how far you can progress with your builds.
The game's visual style is inspired by classic 90s-era action RPGs, featuring vibrant pixel art and a chiptune-influenced soundtrack. The enemy designs and setting draw heavily from Southeast Asian folklore, providing a unique cultural theme that helps it stand out from more generic fantasy ARPG settings.
The game features a robust loot system, with a variety of gear and equipment to collect and upgrade. You can further customize your gear by slotting in various Glyphs and modifiers, adding another layer of depth to the character progression system.
