A Victorian steampunk RPG with tarot cards instead of dice. Investigate the disappearance of society’s most vulnerable to uncover a mysterious cult. Play as three characters, each with their own skills and motivations. Customize your characters with narrative choices to unlock new tarot cards.
The game revolves around exploration, dialogue, and skill checks, with no combat system - players resolve all conflicts through dialogue choices and the tarot card-based chance system. The story progresses through the perspectives of three main characters - Atticus, a minotaur magician; Clara, a rebellious corsair; and Teddy, an engineer who builds the automaton Otto. Their individual narratives intersect and influence one another over the course of the game.
Instead of dice rolls, players draw random tarot cards during skill checks and key decisions, with the outcome determined by combining the card's effects and the relevant character stat. This unpredictable system allows players to unlock new tarot cards through narrative choices, customizing the protagonists' abilities.
While there are no traditional character classes, players shape each protagonist through dialogue choices and skill investment. At the start of each character's story, players select an "archetype" that grants a specialized set of starting stats and abilities. As the game progresses, players can further develop these skills by choosing dialogue options that align with their character's personality and motivations.
Player choices have tangible consequences, unlocking new dialogue options, skills, and story paths. How each character interacts with the world and other NPCs can affect the experiences of the other protagonists, encouraging players to approach situations from multiple perspectives.
The three main characters' narratives are tightly interwoven, with the actions of one protagonist impacting the circumstances or available options for another later in the game. This narrative structure creates a sense of continuity and consequence that enhances the overall RPG experience.
