Players Like...

❤ Modernized Combat System

The 2018 entry modernizes the series' combat system, delivering a more tactical and grounded approach compared to the frenetic button-mashing of previous installments. Players now wield the Leviathan Axe, a slower but harder-hitting weapon that demands precise timing of attacks and blocks. Chaining together Kratos' full moveset, including throwing and recalling the axe as well as his Blades of Chaos and bare fists, becomes crucial for overcoming the game's challenging enemies.

❤ Tighter Camera Perspective

The new over-the-shoulder camera perspective brings the action closer, heightening the visceral impact of each strike. This tighter view forces players to be more aware of their surroundings, as they can no longer rely on the freedom afforded by the series' previous distant camera. The result is combat that feels grounded and impactful.

❤ Deeper RPG Elements

Progression has also deepened with expanded RPG mechanics. As players explore the Norse realms, they'll acquire a variety of armor, talismans, and other gear that can be upgraded, allowing them to customize Kratos' capabilities to their preferred playstyle. This sense of progression and character development adds meaningful rewards for thoroughly investigating each environment.

❤ Satisfying Exploration

Speaking of exploration, the game world, while still linear at its core, opens up with optional areas, puzzles, and side activities that encourage players to meticulously comb each location. Discovering collectibles and completing challenges not only provides tangible rewards, but a deeper sense of investment in the game's stunning and intricate environments.

❤ Synergistic Father-Son Gameplay

A key innovation is the integration of Kratos' son, Atreus, directly into the gameplay. Players can command Atreus to provide support in combat, such as distracting enemies or offering ranged assistance. Effectively coordinating Kratos and Atreus' abilities adds an extra tactical layer to the combat, while also organically evolving their relationship over the course of the story.
