Path of Giants is a serene puzzle adventure that follows three adorable explorers as they take on an icy mountain full of trials in search of a lost treasure. Control three characters, use their teamwork, leave no one behind, and hopefully find some gold!
Players guide three explorer characters - Bern, Matchi, and Totch - through a series of hand-crafted, isometric puzzle levels. The key gameplay mechanic requires players to cooperatively solve these puzzles, as the three explorers must work together to reach their color-coded goal platforms. Players can swap between controlling each individual explorer, utilizing their unique abilities to assist one another. For example, one explorer can boost another onto higher platforms, or the trio can work together to balance weight-based elevators.
The puzzles start off relatively simple, introducing core mechanics like character movement, object interaction, and cooperative teamwork. However, the developers gradually increase the complexity of the puzzle designs as players progress through the 12 main story levels and 5 bonus Winterfest levels. New gameplay elements, such as moving platforms, color-coded light bridges, and other interactive objects, gradually appear to keep the challenge engaging without becoming overwhelming.
The game features intuitive, accessible controls that allow players to effortlessly direct the explorers' movements and interactions using a straightforward point-and-click scheme. An unlimited undo function ensures that players can experiment and correct any mistakes without fear of becoming permanently stuck in an unsolvable state. This design choice, along with the game's avoidance of strict time limits or other punishing mechanics, results in an overall relaxing and rewarding puzzle-solving experience.
The game's environments, depicted in a vibrant, stylized art style, are described as "chillingly beautiful," with each hand-crafted level offering a serene, atmospheric backdrop for the puzzle-solving action. The explorers' adorable animations and expressive behaviors further contribute to the game's whimsical, family-friendly appeal.
The game includes features aimed at improving accessibility, such as the ability to change the explorers' jacket colors to accommodate colorblind players. While the puzzles are reasonably challenging, they are not overly difficult, making the game enjoyable for players of various skill levels. The game's relatively short length (around 4 hours for completion) is also seen as a positive, as it allows for multiple playthroughs and the pursuit of various achievements without overstaying its welcome.
